Q: Why should I go to a counsellor?
In today’s world people face many problems and difficulties. Did you know that about 75% of people who choose to visit a counsellor are not suffering from any mental disorder? They are simply having difficulty coping with abnormal or particularly stressful circumstances. Examples of these may be overcoming fears or phobias, achieving better results at work or school, coping with dependencies, reducing anger, behavioural problems, goal setting and much more.
Q: I am afraid that I will be turned into a chicken or be made to do something I don’t want to do?
This is not stage Hypnosis. A person cannot be made to something they normally wouldn’t do. Not all people will be offered Hypnosis and it will not be undertaken on the first visit. For positive change to occur, the person has to want this to happen eg; stop smoking/ weight control. During the initial visit, a detailed medical assessment is undertaken and treatment does not start until a plan is drawn up and agreed upon.
Q: Will I be asleep or be out of control when I have Hypnosis?
NO! You are fully awake during Hypnosis. People often misunderstand this which is why it is important to realise that this is part of therapy. Unfortunately, most of us see the stage/entertainment Hypnosis and think that is what happens.
Q: How many visits should I have?
Sometimes just one session with a confidential, empathetic counsellor can help, positive changes usually occur within 3-6 visits. Homework is often given to enhance the benefits between visits.
Q: How will this affect my treatment with my Doctor?
Information about your visits will be forwarded to your treating Doctor/Specialist to enable them to monitor your progress which will enhance long term benefits to your health. If you are still concerned, please check with your Doctor prior to visiting.
Q: How do I make an appointment?
You can make a referral from your GP or phone the paging service. The person will take your details, pass on the information and I will contact you to make a mutually agreed time. Consultations are by appointments and Eftpos is available.
Q: What will I learn from this?
People coming for therapy will be taught self-hypnosis by the 3rd session. It is a useful tool to have to combat issues in your life. This knowledge can help you deal with any future stressors that may crop up from time to time after visits have finished.
